(Business) Taiwan’s HTC Corp. Struggles in US Against Samsung, Apple

根據一項新公佈的報告：「美國電信業者提供較高的智慧型手機補助給南韓的三星電子公司，比給台灣宏達電和美國蘋果公司的類似似產品還多。」

According to a newly published report, “US carriers offer higher subsidies on smartphones from South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co. than on similar products from Taiwan’s HTC Corp. and US firm Apple Inc.”

美國電信業者提供的補助，目前三星是84%，台灣的宏達電是80%，以及蘋果是74%。

Subsidies offered by US carriers are currently at about 84% for Samsung, 80% for Taiwan’s HTC Corp., and 74% for Apple.

這表示，在補助過後，三星手機以較低的價錢提供給美國消費者，推動新的三星產品的銷售，像是Galaxy S4。

This means that, after subsidy, Samsung phones are offered for lower prices to US customers, pushing up sales of the new Samsung devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S4.

市調公司ABI研究機構說：「看來部分地解釋了市調公司comScore所獲的數據，它們說HTC持續在美國失守，輸給其他競爭者，包含蘋果和三星。」

Market firm ABI Research, “seemed to partially explain data from research firm comScore, which said that HTC continues to lose ground in the US to competitors including Apple and Samsung.”

根據ABI研究機構的高階分析師尼克史賓瑟說，智慧型手機市場現在「進入新階段，重點放在執行和價格的新階段，並非只著重在創新和價值。」

According to Nick Spencer, ABI Research’s senior practice director, the smartphone market is “entering a new phase focusing on execution and price, rather than innovation and value.”

為了競爭，智慧型手機公司必須仰賴增強的行銷和開發供應鏈的管道才能成為角逐者。

In order to compete, smartphone companies will have to rely on increased marketing and channel supply chains in order to be contenders.

對三到五月這三個月市佔率下降至8.7%的HTC來說，市場依然艱困。

For HTC, who saw its market share decline to 8.7% in the three months ending in May, the market continues to prove tough.
